• AMPAS has invited 928 new members this year, eclipising the 600+ and 700+ invites of the past two years.
• At the beginning of 2016, the Academy's 6,241 voting members were approximately 92 percent white and 75 percent

I mean, is an 8 year old even gonna be allowed to watch like half the films that usually get nominated? Though, the oldies in the academy don't watch the films either, so...

I think some names on that list underline that to some film fans they still see the Oscar as a mark of excellence in film, and for Hollywood it’s always been a popularity contest. Some of those names for acting membership make no sense since not only can they not act but they haven’t put in the time on their career. No standard of excellence at all with some of those names lol
