- AMPAS has invited 928 new members this year, eclipising the 600+ and 700+ invites of the past two years.
- At the beginning of 2016, the Academy's 6,241 voting members were approximately 92 percent white and 75 percent male. AMPAS vowed to double its number of women and diverse members by 2020, and so to meet that goal, the Academy has increased the number of new members it invites each year.
- 49% percent of the class of 2018 are female, which will bring overall percentage of women in the Academy to 31%.
- 38% percent of the new members are people of color, bringing their overall percentage in the Academy to 16%.
- Among the new members, 17 are Oscar winners, while 92 are Oscar nominees.
- Each of the Academy's 17 branches makes up its own list of new members, and candidates must be sponsored by two members of the branch they will be invited to join. Each branch has its own requirements.
- Academy Awards nominees are automatically considered for membership, although an invite is not guaranteed.
- New members of the actors branch include: Gemma Arterton, Christine Baranski, Sofia Boutella, Andre Braugher, Alison Brie, Hannibal Buress, Jaime Camil, Timothée Chalamet, Dave Chappelle, Hong Chau, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Elizabeth Debicki, Zoey Deutch, Dale Dickey, Taye Diggs, Ann Dowd, Taron Egerton, Omar Epps, Isla Fisher, Eva Green, Danai Gurira, Tiffany Haddish, Lena Headey, Regina Hall, André Holland, Ken Jeong, Rashida Jones, Mindy Kaling, Daniel Kaluuya, Zoe Kazan, Audra McDonald, Chloë Grace Moretz, Kumail Nanjiani, Randall Park, Pedro Pascal, Kal Penn, Mekhi Phifer, Alison Pill, Trevante Rhodes, Joely Richardson, Daisy Ridley, Gina Rodriguez, Kyra Sedgwick, Léa Seydoux, Jada Pinkett Smith, Miles Teller, Quvenzhané Wallis, Michael K. Williams, and Evan Rachel Wood.
- New members of the directors branch include: Sean Baker, Michel Gondry, Luca Guadagnino, Andy Muschietti, Angela Robinson, Justin Simien, and Chloé Zhao.
