I wonder if The CW would pick this up for a show, I mean why not since it seems to be in trend, but I've never watched the series and I'm not sure how the Buffy fans would feel about that.

They wont. Buffy is owned by FOX and TheCW can only take programs from WB/CBS.

I don't know anything about the show or the details of ownership, but I always thought the series aired on the WB and then it went to UPN.

It did but back then TheWB/UPN acted like independent networks and would buy pilots from other networks. They would have to pay a certain fee to FOX for airing Buffy. Them not owning the show is partially a reason why it was cancelled and moved to UPN.

TheCW remains profitable because WB/CBS use it to air shows that they own so they dont pay any special fees.
