She wasn't getting anything out of it, and actually spent more time seething on twitter and inciting her rabid bookstans into rages and trying to get people involved in the show fired.

SO MAYBE SHE'S WINNING.

so this technically makes sense to me, given the budget vs indicators of popularity, but what strikes me most about this cancellation is that there was no warning beforehand - like typically "on the bubble" shows get flagged as such so that there can be fan campaigns to save them. the ratings had never been a strong indicator since the $ for the show came from deals elsewhere (i.e., from netflix).

from what I've heard, none of the fan chatter suspected this was a possibility until this announcement. so, it seems kind of ... ruthless. idk. maybe netflix didn't give freeform any warning either. (it's not like they ever promoted the show to their users, so idk what they were expecting.)

maybe we're all just totally out of the loop on this...? hmm.

reading into THR's source it was 100% netflix's funding that made this show work, which is weird since it seems to have a large fandom, especially in the LGBT community? additionally, FF didn't really promo this (according to the twitter comments at the source). i didn't see ANY promo at SDCC for this, and they were still in one of the biggest ballrooms that the convention had. maybe nomorefrostbite is more informed than i am, but it does seem like a funding issue. FF should step up and cancel that fosters spinoff no one asked for to fund this

maybe the fosters spinoff is cheap as hell and that's why FF is pushing it forward. it just seems like poor long-term planning for branding, since there is no way that is going to 'take off'...lol.

Yep internationally the fandom is active and dedicated. There are a lotttt of shadowhunters cons all over europe now literally every damn five minutes, and the mains are always there, and they're always packed and sold out and massively popular.

Every time I see posts about this show I wonder why it has fans on here, given CC's history et al

CC isn't involved, it was discussed at length back in the posts right before Season 2 aired. She sold the rights forever ago when she was cash strapped, and there has been loads of drama about her trying to get people who run the show fired, and trying to rile up her book stans on social media to bitch about the show etc cos she hates all the (way superior) changes they made to her shit 'material'.

So if anything plenty of people here watched just to spite her flop ass.

Because we watch for what was changed from the books and for the people involved in filming. We don't start every episode reminiscing CCs personal history and they don't show her picture at the start.

lmao ikr, some of the comments in this post are such a #tbt to me because we had all of this in my posts at the start of season 2, but then barely anything since as people asked all their questions and we all discussed CC, and it seemed that people were generally aware that it's actually book VS show and CC VS the showrunners and cast...

Like half of us watch just to spite her and her crazy book stans.
