My grandma had her funeral planned and paid for but my dad still ended up with a pretty big bill.

That feels like bait and switch. I'm sorry for your dad.

Funerals/wakes/burials are insanely expensive. They're pretty much the main reason we have life insurance these days.

It's more expensive to die than it is to be born in many cases.

I went under an 18 wheeler in my little Corolla years ago and the truck carried me 300 yards before I was able to free my car out and then spun until I hit the concrete median wall. It was definitely the scariest and most traumatic moment of my life but for some reason during that whole time I didn't think I was going to die. The paramedics couldn't believe that I survived with just a cut on my leg and head and were begging me to go to the hospital but I didn't want a bill.

Being cremated doesn't mean you can't still have a gravesite. I've never known a person who didn't have one, whether their ashes were buried or not.

tbh, with how much they cost, most people should.

I don't want a funeral or any religious stuff at all. If people must gather, they can play Kylie songs loudly and get stoned.

I’m not at all phased by the prospect of my own death, but i think about my loved ones dying all the time, probably to an unhealthy degree

I'm an only child so it's going to be a shitload of work when my mom goes, on top of how mentally fucked i'll be. Thank fuck she's young and also planning to move when she retires one day (ie she can clean out ha damn house haself!!).

I'll prob die of stupidity without her advice anyway so shouldn't worry.

Same re: being an only child, and also single parent fam, so my mum is all I have left. And she's 70...... so I do think about this a lot, she's really getting on.
