lagertha going from killing rapists to being a rapist herself is as sad as lagertha going from championing women/seeing aslaug as an ally to killing her because #homewreckingwitch or whatever. the more focus hirst gives her, the more she's ruined and it's a fucking shame.
Sry to hijack this post but can we talk about Godless?! I saw your gif sets on tumblr and I still need to work out how I feel about that show (speaking of female empowerment and toxic masculinity...).
i gotta be upfront and say that i really liked it, though, maybe especially because it seemed aware of toxic masculinity. my only real complaint is that blackdom was paid in absolute dust. shameful.
I really liked it as well tbh. When the reports came out that it was a lot less focused on the women than advertised I was a bit worried but I ended up binging it anyway with some friends bc it was really well-done and compelling... the cast was ace and it was shot so well, I loved the whole atmosphere. But I guess I also feel a bit guilty about liking it so much bc I can see where the criticism came from... Mary Agnes was awesome but we didn't really get all that many storylines with the women in the town (and some of them were introduced super late like that badass German lady and the Pinkerton dude?! lmao) and Griffin's monologues kind of drove me crazy. Even Alice didn't get a lot of dialogue and only that one flashback. I mean I like how it played with Western conventions but the story was just pretty cliché and I couldn't help but wonder how much more interesting it could've been if it had focused on the women and Blackdom? You can still have that outside threat but gimme less of the cookie cutter villains and more of everyone

i can agree with all of this. i needed 1000% less of rapist weirdo frank griffin and his "do you have a pappy?" "i seen my death" canned lines and monologues. he was the least interesting part of the series yet he ate up a majority of the screen time. when people complain that men had more lines than women, what they're really noting is that frank had more lines than everybody 😪
a follow up would be great now that he's dead and all the women lived. blackdom can't be completely wiped out either as it was a historic town. we deserve to see both towns rebuild.
(also i kinda loved how martha was saved for maximum impact at the end lmfao. she and meechum turned out to be my heterotp and win me completely over in a very short amount of time 😬)

Like I wouldn't have minded if Bill would've had more of a storyline (he kinda disappeared on his tracking trip there and I still can't @ how fucking useless the military turned out to be though I guess that's realistic lol) and I also didn't mind watching Roy arrange horses in a weird pattern for 1000 hours or being a daddy to Truckee (that boy was so good!) but fucking Frank, man, he should've died from blood poisoning after the amputation.

merritt and scoot had such good chemistry as siblings lmao. i wish the series had been centered more on them/the town of women (but i still really enjoyed alice, roy, and her family. granny badass and truckee were a delight). and don't you know? wearing glasses once or twice cures a man's eyesight 😤
