i also dislike the opposite end of the spectrum where people get super vocal about refusing to ever watch stuff just because people like them.
Lmao I get what you mean - both extremes irk me. I remember for BTTF day 2 years ago there were people tweeting/posting on Tumblr being all "OMG I HATE THE INTERNET TODAY", just being OTT about it and it's like damn, it was literally once in a lifetime. XD Like if I'm not interested in a show/movie that has a ton of hype, I just keep scrolling - however I had to unfollow artists on Tumblr a few years ago because they started drawing really gross Gravity Falls fanart (like literally with kids in the artwork, GAG) and I didn't wanna see that on my feed. I haven't even watched Gravity Falls, either, they drew art for a lot of stuff and drew pretty well otherwise, but I got put off by them when I saw stuff like that.
At the same time I try not to be OTT about stuff I like with friends, but I realize I can be too excited about certain things so that's something I'm working on with myself, lol.
Omg sis if I ever get too enthusiastic with you about the stuff I like, please call me out. XD I don't post on social media or Facebook about my fav shows/movies much but I realize I get rambly in emails/one on one chats with friends sometimes, lmao. I'm a WIP when it comes to getting excited over shit, haha. Overall though if I find something interesting then I'm still gonna check it out as long as I avoid the tags, especially if I know the fandom is way OTT or even gross. I mentioned this below but I had to unfollow a few people a while back on Tumblr who started posting smut with literal kids from Gravity Falls because I didn't wanna see shit like that on my feed. I'm sure it's a fun show but tbh it never interested me anyway.
But yeah I thought it was so dumb two years ago when people started tweeting/posting about how much they hated BTTF Day, too. Like damn, let us enjoy this literal once in a lifetime event, lol. Being OTT about liking/disliking something gets annoying, IA.
Lmaooo I'm like that right now mostly because my mom's been watching the show for the first time so it's got me back on a Weeds kick. XD Glad I haven't scared you away, bb! Tbh I love when you've gotten excited about bands in our emails, even if it's a band I'm not too familiar with. But maybe because I'm a music nut anyway, it never bothers me if people talk for days about music, haha. I see it as a win-win when I'm learning about other music. :D

YES I know what you mean! I actually used to read fanfics and I was a fanartist for a while before getting into paid art commissions (drawing fanart is what GOT me to into doing paid commissions, lol), so through that I ended up coming across a lot of dark shit in fandom. D: Not to mention there's almost always drama amongst fans over the most mundane shit (I kid you not, people argue over Daria's cup size, for instance, how fucked up is that?). Like some of that just comes across as creepy to me, obsessing over a teen cartoon character's bra size, WTF

Seriously, you don't have to engage with fandoms at all. Riverdale kinda sorta breaks the fourth wall sometimes with its fandom-pandering imo, but not really to a huge extent that it breaks the fourth wall.
Gawd, my husband is like this with Rick and Morty, minus the tattoo. I dread the nights when he and our son get together. They converse in Rick and Morty-isms and I want to get in the car and drive far, far away from both of them.
