Somehow, it’s out of the question that they ended up staying in the Stormfleet after the babies are born. For one, it’s impossible for Nino and the Fijan to take care of all five, quickly growing alien babies on their own and expect not to go crazy in the process.

Sakurai Sho, for one, is ecstatic it’s infectious. Nino couldn’t have, for the life of him, imagined seeing his normally-cool superior cooing affectionately as he makes faces at anyone, especially to an alien’s children for that matter, but he guesses that’s the side of him they wouldn’t have been able to see if not for his half-human, half-Fijan kids.

It’s kind of nice to see his colleagues trip over themselves when they visit the babies, knows that the Fijan is equally-happy knowing that the humans have easily accepted them on-board - himself and the kids - as if they’ve always been part of the crew.

It’s been just a handful of months since, but the babies have grown quiet bigger compared to normal human children. Ginger and Pepper have always been Jun and Sho’s favorite, though it’s difficult not to be charmed by Nari, Sam, and Maki, too.

“Have you thought about it already?” is what Jun asks when he visits that afternoon; the Fijan is presumably with the mechanical crew to fix something below deck, while Aiba and Sho help him babysit. Pepper and the boys are with them now, but Ginger's down with a little cold so she’s staying with him.

Ginger whines in her sleep and burrows her face further into Nino’s neck as Nino cradles her closer.

“Keep it down, Captain,” he reminds Jun as he rocks Ginger gently. “my baby girl’s kinda sick. She didn’t sleep well last night because of this nasty cold.”

Jun clears his throat lowly. “Oh, sorry. Did you ask Saiki-Sensei to check on her?”

“Yes, but he’s obviously not that confident about giving her human medicines yet, and Sammy didn’t want us to take our chances, either. We’re just observing her condition for now, that’s the least we can do, really.”

“Let’s hope it’s just a simple cold, then,” Jun says.

“Yep,” he turns to face Jun. “What was that you’re asking me about earlier? I’m sorry I wasn’t paying attention.” He apologizes.

Jun waves his hand at him in answer. “It’s fine.”

“Right. So, about the thing -“

“The wedding,” Jun says, cutting him off. “it has to happen, Nino, or else you won’t be able to take him back to Earth even if you want to.”

He shrugs. He’s considered the possibilities before, and it’s not like he’s that eager to stay on Earth for a prolonged period of time, but, there’s his family, for one. Of course he’d like to see them again, his mother and his sister, with the Fijan and their kids, preferably. He’d like his mother to meet his children, knows how amusing that meeting would be, once she finds out they’re not adopted.

“I take it that the wedding ceremony we did on Sammy’s ship on the day of my abduction doesn’t count?” he asks, sheepishly. He honestly has no recollection of the incident, at all, but the Fijan keeps insisting it did happen, showing the marks of promises painted on both their skins.

Nino has no idea where they came from and how they ended up there, really.

“You can’t even say for certain if that really happened!” Jun snaps, looking annoyed. “And besides, you need a proper one, with a certificate and witnesses. You’re not thinking of showing both yours and the Fijan’s arms to the authorities as evidence, do you? That won’t work.”

“And also, how are you going to explain the babies?” Jun follows, like an after-thought.

He hums. “You’re right.”

“Of course I am,” Jun says, “never mind the fact that you chose an alien for a partner, going home with five kids in tow would be kind of - shocking. I’m not even sure how you’re going to explain this matter to your mother, but that’s your business; all I’m saying is that we should take care of the legalities first while we still can.”

“What do you mean?”

“There’s a rule in the Federation manual about interspecies relationships resulting to pregnancy, you don’t know?”

“Huh?”

Jun looks a little uneasy, his mouth twitching. “Fine, you probably haven’t read it or heard anything about it, but it’s there and that’s why I’m telling you. We’ll be docking in Orsel in three days, and I’d rather not leave the planet without you, your Fijan would-be husband and your half-alien babies.”

He blinks, suddenly feeling a little scared at the implication of the Captain’s words.

“What - What do you mean?”

“Well, the fleet would be harboring a bunch of undocumented aliens, and once they’ve checked how it happened, I’m sure the authorities there are going to hold you back for investigation,” Jun says.

“All seven of us? Even the kids?”

“Yes.”

“Shit.”

“That pretty much sums it up, yeah,” Jun says, “So, what do you think?”

He sighs and holds Ginger closer to his chest.

“When should we hold the wedding?”
