LJ Idol Exhibit A - Week Four - Fighting Evil by Moonlight

Feb 13, 2013 13:56

I was in elementary school when I developed my powers of imagination. I would look out from my perch atop the fireman’s pole on our play structure, and I wouldn’t see the playground below me as it was before. Instead, I would see the Moon Kingdom, the misty mountains of Japan teeming with flying samurai, or the vastness of space brimming with my ( Read more... )

:grins: My kids always loved Sailor Moon, my 21 year old still regularly watches the show and writes fan fic as part of her leftover childhood imagination time. You and she would probably love each other. :)

That is so awesome! I am sure we would :) I had it in my head to re-watch every episode of the show but I lost track of it somewhere. I still like to hang on to my childhood by playing Pokemon and watching the show, hehe.

If only we kept our childhood imaginations. There are glimpses but certainly not as vivid as when we were young. Nicely done.

Agreed, sometimes when I reminisce I can recapture a bit of that magic, but it's definitely faded over time. Thank you for reading :)

Oh my gosh that sounds amazing. I loved forts. Sometimes in the winter the snow banks would get high enough that we could build elaborate tunnel systems (and I say elaborate but it was probably only a few different holes in the ground) and pretend we were Arctic explorers. I miss those times, too.

Your childhood sounds like it was more fun than mine was. I just put on plays about Alvin & the Chipmunks. ;)

I still love them ;) I've seen all the live action films (even when my son wouldn't go see the 3rd one in the cinema with me, so I went alone) and have a bunch of the albums.

This was written really beautifully, Alex. I think you managed to capture that magic of imagination, the feeling of whimsy in the way you put this to the page.

But the ending just made my heartache--perhaps because it's an all too familiar feeling.

Aww, thank you so much, that means so much to me. It made me a little bit sad to write this, too, because I feel like so much of that childhood whimsy has faded from my life, but it's nice to be able to re-live it a little by writing about it :)
