I am not gay...

.. but I love "A Chorus Line". I mention this only because when I was teeming with excitement over having downloaded "A Chorus Line" from iTunes as a $0.99 rental, one of my gay co-workers described me as the "gayest straight man ever". Which under the circumstances, is totally understandable ( Read more... )

OMG that was 80's. So, so 80's.

I was just gonna quote the score, or tell you that no, I think Spouse is fighting for your title since he just had me order tickets to PeeWee's Playhouse on Broadway - but then I watched the clips.

omgosh, the 80's, it burns.

I also adore the "A Chorus Line" movie. I have watched it many many times, and seen the live musical itself a few times, as well ( ... )

You should. I remember having the same response to the sex bits. Now they are a little more annoying, I actually skipped past most of "Surprise". "Tits and Ass" still made me laugh though.

I've never seen it, despite being a theater major, but based just on what you've said here ...

Zach doesn't give a damn about the eight he named ... they are not his problem, his job, or his responsibility. He does, however, have a job to do with those who are called back. He's not motivated to be anything at all towards those eliminated, so if he's cruel to them, it's only incidentally.

So, what is he saying to those selected for his chorus line?

If Zach called the 8 selected it would completely undermine the show. The show is about NOT making it. (Yes I was obsessed with the musical as a wee one - what of it?)

Meopta makes a good point, that it is about not being selected. To the chosen, he simply starts rattling off the rehersal schedule and opening dates. But that is done in the back ground, almost as an after-thought, like a voice over. The camera dwelLs on the faces of the dancers we have come to know. The details of the show are irrelevant.
