So the new semester starts today, it’s Opening Day, and that never makes me happy.  And it’s cold again here, after a week or so of unseasonably warm weather, plus which one of my gloves has disappeared, and I'm irritated.  I walk into the cafeteria all bundled up and desperately in need of hot soup. Yeah. Random acts of kindness and other examples of the good in people can really throw a hitch in being dour and misanthropic.

I am not having any problems with that tonight.

And think about it this way: kindness from a stranger or even a relative stranger is infrequent enough to make you want to write about it; because if kindness from others were a frequent occurence than you'd just say, "oh, of course..." What does this say about people in general? Or have I been living in Baltimore too long?

I used to spend a lot of time in Baltimore (having grown up just down the coast, and being a big fan of both the nation's best seafood and the Aquarium). So, I can say that it isn't just the town; folks there aren't any worse than folks in, say, St. Louis. Just a bit more Catholic than most.
