Torchwood and knitting. An unlikely combination... (Or, is it? Dun-dun-DUN!)

Sep 02, 2008 20:06

So, what did I do over Labor Day weekend? Knit and watch a LOT of Torchwood. (All of series 1, and the first episode of series 2, to be exact.)

Torchwood, series 1: The series where they all fuck up. Spectacularly. EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM.

Torchwood thoughts )

photos, torchwood, law school, knitting!

Er, Albany, NY? My town? Or is there an Albany, TX? (I know there's one somewhere in the South & one in California.)

I miss Tosh! Season 2 was way better than season 1, but I don't think it lived up to the promise of s2ep1 either..

Albany, NY! He just moved up there for his grad program. (HAHA, and according to google, we do have an Albany, TX. Predictably, it's in the middle of nowhere.) Oh, wow, what a small world. You know, I saw you mention Albany several times, but I guess it never clicked. I can't believe I was so oblivious. That's too funny.

(Also, I love your icon. HEE!) Yeah, I think it was definitely hard to live up to how amazing the first episode of season 2. But, for me, some of the character resonances were off in season 2. I never really could get behind Owen/Tosh. It felt like they just didn't know what to do with those characters, especially with Tosh, and so they threw them together, and then they killed them off. But I absolutely loved the teamy goodness in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I wish we could have seen more of that.

I hated Owen/Tosh, because I loved Tosh & never liked Owen, plus the whole alien pheromone thing..

The icon is by Redscharlach. She has another version with the caption 'two rights can't be wrong.' :)

Is you friend at SUNY? I'm in the anthro grad program.

Yeah, he's at SUNY, doing nanotech stuff. (He's my fiance. I still love saying that...) I'll be visiting as often as I can get up there, which will basically be once a semester, before the finals studying kicks in. I'm toying with the idea of moving up there after I graduate for a few years, depending on how long his program lasts (he thinks 4 years) and whether I can find a job. I don't want to be married and living almost 2000 miles apart, but I also don't want to sit the bar in New York without any other ties to the state. It's something that still needs to be worked out, but I definitely can't stress about it yet.

I love those cartoon mini icons! I've seen them everywhere! Thanks for the link. (BWAHAHAHAHA, there's a lesser of two weevils icon!)

Tosh had so much potential, and they just did nothing about it. There were glimmers, and there were definitely times when she got to be awesome, but sadly not enough of them.

Your stole looks lovely. Nice color choice. I agree, I hope the rest of the pattern is error free as well...DK the Nautical Knitter

Oh wow, thanks for commenting!! :-) I think you're fantastic for putting this thing on. It's been a lot of fun to play with, even with the slight frustrations of errors -- it's always better to hit that early on, rather than at the end. (And I'm glad you approve of the color choice!) :-D

What the hell does "retconned" mean? (And why do I keep reading these entries about shows I don't watch? There was a big picture! I could have skipped straight to the knitting!)

Oooh, the pretty. *pets it* Also, your blanket may have been too shiny, but it looks mighty soft and comfy. I want to curl up on it and take a nap. (After removing the pins.) I think I'm just tired.

Retcon is short for retroactive continuity, and it's where an explanation for something is given by saying "oh, this is how it always was" (in some cases), or where backstory is provided to explain something in the present. (In the Torchwood universe, the amnesia pill they have is called retcon.)

Haha, the easy answer would be for me to split stuff into separate entries. I always try to do that, but I never really actually do...

The blanket is soft and comfy, but occasionally it gets REALLY warm. It's made from some sort of acrylic plush material. Very soft. Get some rest! Find a warm blanket (or something knitted, of course) to curl up with! I hope things are starting to calm down for you, but realistically I know that these things take a long time to sort themselves out.

Wow. I don't think I like my TV viewing to require that much brainpower! (Er, wait. I do watch "Lost.")

Ha, no reason you should have to separate your stuff into different entries. I'd probably read them both anyway!

It's supposed to be 90 degrees today, so a really warm blanket shouldn't sound good, but it totally does. I did say I was going to lay on TOP of it ;) Life has actually calmed down a bit lately, I just stayed up too late last night and then there were too many car alarms and noisy neighbors this morning. *yawn* Might be time for a pot of coffee!

Less brainpower required and more, "oh, we've got this super awesome cure-all for this problem we have?" "really?" "yeah, don't you remember, you got it a year ago?" "oh, right, THAT super-awesome fix it!" and then a little bit of hand-waving.

Oh, that's good that things are calming down. I'm glad it's just a normal "up too late" sort of tiredness. (Haha, I must have missed the part about being on top of it. That makes a lot more sense!)

Is there some sort of knitting... QUEST that I don't know about? A game or a challenge or something??

Yay weekend trip to Albany! (Does Paul read this? Is it a surprise?)

Haha, no knitting quest, other than a personal one. (Also, there are occasional prizes for completion of certain clues, so that's a motivation.)

Paul doesn't read this (as far as I know), but it's not a surprise. I needed to make sure it wasn't a weekend where he's got three quizzes and a midterm the following week, plus a research presentation or something...

So wait, if it's just a personal thing, where are the "clues" (and prizes) coming from??

Gotcha. So did y'all pick a weekend?
