This is really cool! I tried it, but I'm using Photoshop 7...so I couldn't figure out how to do the black and white adjustment layer. I'll keep messing with it...because I really like the end result! Thanks so much!!!

I believe ps7 does not have it. But simply making a black or white layer and changing the blending mode to colour will work fine as well.

Ah yes, sometimes if not enough of the image is dark the light texture doesn't show up!
