Paean to an Apple, Abbreviated Update, and Brief Shiny

I'm pretty sure my next important purchase is going to be an iPad. Let's be honest, my primary use for a computer is for surfing the 'net and the iPad looks ideal for that. I need to make it to an Apple Store sometime to check out the keys in particular; the iPhone is untenable for doing a great deal of typing (I'm all thumbs when it comes to ( Read more... )

I am developing a profound aversion to Apple. Steve Jobs has demonstrated an utter contempt for basic rights (see his comments on suing the Theora project and why Flash will not be available on iAnything).

Would a netbook serve your needs better? They are also cheaper than an ipad ;)

The Theora situation is unfortunate. On the other hand, I'm very grateful for not having Flash on i- or MacAnything. From a strictly lay perspective, it's an annoying format. Of course, technology will march on and designers will come up with other obnoxious (and unavoidable) ways to furnish sites. :/ Thais is beside the point and I can see how in the future this sort of attitude may lead to trouble. It's not the perfect situation, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend here ( ... )

I am a bit more bloody-minded than you - I run Ubuntu Linux with VirtulBox so that I can run Windows as a program under Linux. Best of both worlds :D

I've also been eyeing the iPad, because I also use the computer for blogging, Internet, and the occasional Word document and game. But only very casually---we just moved, and I want more reviews to look at to tell how kid-friendly it is.

Also, your ring link doesn't work, so I have little idea what you're talking about in the last half of your entry.

I've yet to see anything concerning the kid-friendliness of it, outside the mention of a few apps aimed at kids.

Link fixed. There's really not much of a 'thing' as I implied. The entry linked talked about the wedding rings we have picked out for each other. Life intrudes and the wedding planning has fallen by the wayside in favor of jobs and education.
