Glad to hear from you again. :-) Is this the first time you've read The Hobbit? I've read the LotR trilogy somewhere around 10 times over the years, not reading the Hobbit until after I'd read the trilogy a couple of times - a very different style of story.

When I was 16 my parents took me to a Tigers game despite my devout wishes to the contrary. I grabbed a copy of The Hobbit and read it during the majority of the game (and in the car). Between distractions and the disturbing illustrations (scoliosis-ridden elves with enormous widow's peaks, etc.) I hardly remembered what happened.

At this point, I'm in a similar situation that Ryan has with LOTR. He's read the opening chapter more times than he can count, but gets lost in the Old Forest. The Hobbit magically disappears whenever I get to the troll chapter.
