Two wonderful things were discovered this weekend:
1. Akira. I had a free rental from the movie gallery & had my heart set on some anime. Of course, up here in the middle of nowhere that's hard to come by, but they did have Akira. I knew nothing about it, but I figured as long as it's anime I'll probably like it. It was quite awesome. I ( Read more... )

special edition... I can't tell when it was released, the rental box is wonderfully unhelpful. But it's the most recent version, with the 2 discs. I liked watching the special feature about the music, go figure :)

I have the old 80s vhs and the special edition and I like the old dub better. They changed/reinterpretted some of the words in the special edition. There's always room for subtitles, though, like jello.

yeah I was wondering about that. I put the subtitles on first, but then I checked & they were the same as the dub, as far as I could tell. I'd love to see the vhs at some point, although at the moment I am unable to play such technology :)

Akira is one of the animes that I want to watch, but it is not on the high end of the list.

I've never heard of Puffins ceral, but from your description I want to try it.....

WE SHALL FEAST ON IT THIS WEEKEND!!... provided you're planning on coming to see me.

Akira's plot is a little twisty, which makes sense since it comes from a series of comics I guess. But I like the world it creates, and the fight scenes are nice, and the music is awesome. Any movie that uses a friggin' gamelon and a 500-voice chorus wins major points with me :)

Yeah, I like Akira. I have a DVD of it somewhere... in a box in my storage unit, I think. :) I should watch it again, though, it's been a while.

And yay for people coming to see you for your concert.

Unfortunately, I'm probably going to work that night, because I need cash. Also, I may soon have my car running again, but I don't want to kill it right away.... it's going to be working hard as soon as it's going again...
