No, they don't get returned afterward. If they were, I would be tempted to write up critiques with a lot of vague statements and footnotes solely for my amusement.
Thank you. My scrapes are very superficial and I will probably take the band-aids off tomorrow once I start keying in numbers on a register or calculator.
Seriously though, I've worked a book fair, just a couple of hours here and there in the week to fill in, and I don't envy your job. Best of luck, and make sure everyone checks their bags at the door to avoid shoplifting.
I also have duct tape band-aids and solid colored neon foam ones in my purse. At home I have a ridiculous assortment of printed band-aids, including ones that look like strips of bacon.
I haven't chaired book fair at the school because I don't like doing the pre-event promotion activities, but I love being around the books, talking to people about what books might appeal to readers of with particular reading levels and interests, and I have a flexible schedule to be there all day.
We have a coats and bags at the door policy in place from last year, so the only thing I am nervous about this year is being there during the Tuesday evening sale. I usually staff book fair all week except that night because the sheer number of people makes me feel agoraphobic. I discussed it ahead of time with a few people who need to know, so I'll be opening and closing out the register and spending the time between in other rooms. (The evening sale period coincides with the semester's open house night.)
