Citrus and rosemary in the garden, another sinus infection, and the school-level gifted program.

The cooler weather lately has encouraged the citrus on the patio to finally start looking ripe. I am hopeful we'll have fresh tangerines in December, but I'm not sure how much longer the Meyer lemons will take. I am tickled by how well they're doing outside after having them inside last winter (and no fruit to show for it). Vogon bought another ( Read more... )

Interesting that the citrus is doing better outside than in! I'd have thought it would like the warmer temps inside. It's been cool here lately, too.

Good luck with the school-level gifted program! Glad she's excited about it!

This year I learned that clementines actually need a little cold (not a freeze) to ripen. It's the first time we've had clementine fruits (our other clementine tree was grown from seed and has never blossomed) so it's been exciting that they're finally turning orange. I've been looking at little green clementines since early this summer!

I don't know if the limes do better with a little cold, but they do have to be protected from a hard freeze so I bring them inside for January and February. The lemon and tangerines can take a freeze as long as it's not sudden.

We'll see how the school change works out. I don't know what to expect at this point, but I'll be satisfied if she's not bored and is happy where she is.

I did a lot of soul-searching on why we should keep Laurel in the district-level program. She will be evaluated for readmission into it for third grade, but it was a big change to go from regular classwork to the district-level program without the school-level program in between. I think Laurel will enjoy the school-level program because she's really happy being back among kids she's been in classes with before.

I will take a picture of the tangerines this afternoon!

thank you! ask laurel to stick her head in the pic, too, she's growing so fast.

you made a great choice, there. you know the soul searching i had to do with killi. i was told she could graduate hs at around 11, but i wanted her to have a bit of fun in her life, so i did a ton of enrichment stuff at home. if laurel is happy and learning, and not pushed too hard, or bored, that's the place for her. :D
