Surreal day, lunch at Mama Fu's, lovey kitty and homemade jalapeño poppers.

I think today officially counts as surreal. I woke up with the same combination of shoulder tension/right temple headache I went to sleep with minus the sinus pain (last night's Tavist helped). Took two naproxen to beat the remaining pain, then a Tavist an hour later because the sinus pain came back. (Unless I mention otherwise, I use SinoFresh ( Read more... )

What was in the poppers? I'm not a cream cheese fan, so I'm really curious.

I was wrong about there being no cream cheese; he actually used a small amount in the filling. To the best of my knowledge, he used shredded cheese, mayonnaise, a few ounces of cream cheese and chili powder in the filling. I'll take notes next time he makes poppers and see if it's replicable before I post his recipe.

Vogon avoids cream cheese most of the time because he doesn't really like it.

For the record...

Jalapeno Poppers:

12-14 large, fresh jalapeno peppers.
1 bag of Corn Kits cornbread mix.
Eggs and milk per cornbread mix recipe.
Oil for deep frying.

Filling:
8 oz cream cheese
8 to 16 oz cojack cheese, grated finely
1/4 cup mayo (real mayo, not that fake, nasty stuff from Kraft)
2 tsp powdered chipotle
2 tsp powdered New Mexico chili peppers

Wash and core the jalapenos, then stuff with as much stuffing as they'll take. Dip in cornbread batter before dropping into the hot oil.
Fry for about 3 to 5 minutes, or until the batter is completely cooked. Drain and then enjoy.

It's easier to fry them open end up because you'll lose less filling.

Naproxen nor Demerol work for me at all...it pisses me off.

I'm sorry. Sometimes naproxen works for me, sometimes it doesn't, which is why I have to remember to try ketoprofen first next time I want to take a pain reliever. Vogon swears by it as the only OTC medication that helped his mother's headaches.

When are you going to be here?

My end of month is looking uber-busy. oracleofdoom already invited me to her Farscape Party on the 31st and wanderingrogue is going to be here from OK for a wedding. I told her back in March that we'd hang out.

Let me know!

We fly in the afternoon of 25 July and out the afternoon of 8 August. So far I'm booked 6-7 August for my sister's wedding, one night to sleep at jaehop and make karaksindru pancakes for breakfast, and intermittently to sort through my household baggage into Himself's, mine/Laurel's, and things to donate/sell/recycle.
