Musing on kitchens...

The kitchen we have here isn't really DREADFUL per se, but it's not great. The cupboards appear to be decently made hand made cabinets from the late 1970's - functional (if you don't include the drawers that don't close all the way properly) but not exactly pretty, standard ol' 70's laminate countertops, vinyl tile floors, and an island that isn't ( Read more... )

Lovely, rich, gorgeous blue.

*purrpurr*

Personal taste, I like it best without the white. I bet it'd be too dark in reality, though.

Hmm.

yeah - that was my thought too - countertops and island are pretty big - doing the backsplash too would probably be overdoing it with the blue, and the white I think will break that up

I've been playing with www.colourlovers.com and http://kuler.adobe.com/ lately, myself. Not that I can change anything here as we rent..

But if I could? I'd gut that fucking kitchen.

Baby shit yellow and slate blue back-splash tile, retina burning yellow walls, grey and bone flooring -- and stark white cabinetry, lovely glass/light oak door to the living room with a brass handle -- so completely out of place and the only thing I like besides the after-thought of a shelf someone randomly added to one wall.

And a single 4ft fluorescent light.

Oh -- and the countertops themselves are white/grey speckled. @_@

Oh lord I hear ya - 13+ yrs of rental houses - all of em hideous - couldn't even really plant a garden let alone make the kitchen livable

That tile pattern is fantastic!

Mine looks about the same--with horrible mint green patterned shelf paper in each cupboard. It's a good thing I don't cook that much!

thanks - we're gonna try printing them out life size and then gluing them down to a long brown paper template and see how it looks in the actual kitchen :)

Making Marmoe a permanent guest in your kitchen might be a good idea - you'll have fewer problems with flies...

Oooh, those tiles are beautiful. I love the geckos, so fun! And that scrumptious cobalt blue. The solid gold ones are a bit overwhelming for my taste, but it does look great in general. Nice pattern choices!

I'm not as fond of the yellow - but the cobalt is a bit much all on its own it needs some kind of a 'frame to give it some structure

my current kitchen has white cupboards and the backsplash is done with blackboard paint. Surprisingly swank and you can chalk notes on it.

got some places I'm definitely planning on using blackboard paint, and a couple where I want to try magnetic primer paint - turning a whole wall into a magnetic chalk board. .. Well more like half a wall
