Ryan and Sandy

Seeing the new trailer for Season 4 got me thinking of the first episode of last season.  Besides the scene with Sandy and Ryan at the bus station, it was a bit of a disappointment.  I think the main reason was Sandy's reaction to Ryan getting arrested again.  In the opening scene he was so concerned about Ryan getting brought up on charges and ( Read more... )

I'm with you. Sandy was so indifferent to Ryan for most of the season and downright negligent most of the time. Social Services needed a "nanny cam" or surprise visits. His attitude when he found out that Trey was blaming Ryan was so disappointing since it was obvious Ryan was crushed when Sandy doubted him. If Sandy hadn't questioned whether Ryan was being truthful with him and not withholding any information, Ryan would have at least believed that the Cohens were behind him even if his own brother took the betrayal to another letter and another adult had her own unethical agenda. Instead, Sandy practically pushed him away and left him so isolated, despondent and defeated ( ... )

I completely agree with you. In the new trailer there is one shot of Sandy looking concerned and I am hoping it has to do with Ryan. I don't want to get my hopes too much though, last year was one disappointing episode after the next in regards to parenting.

I wanted Sandy flogged last year by the end of the first episode. I was discovering new emotions and levels of disappointment afterwards. And Kirsten? I wanted to shake her. She not only cut the poor kid off at the knees during the intervention, but she avoided him while he was in home-school hell and never had the courage to address her unbelievably hurtful words, spent all of her time with Julie, and never made any overtures to connect with Ryan or even inform about first her progress and then her relapses re: her drinking. Whatever her logic, she was hiding and she wasn't including him- again. Even her actions involving Dawn were poorly thought out and seemed more about making herself feel better than considering the consequences, Ryan's feelings or well-being ( ... )
