Rallying the troops

Aug 19, 2013 19:43

Early this morning, I was browsing Twitter when I caught a tweet from Cliff quoting someone who said reports of his death were exaggerated. Admittedly, I got the context wrong. With context it's much, much worse.

campylobacter reported that on Friday night at Creation Chicago Con, the MC introduced a vid of Baal with "We're going to play this video tribute to ( Read more... )

I would have had a fucking heart attack if I'd been there and heard that intro

I know, right? Just reading it on Twitter made me feel ill.

That really upset me when I saw Cliff's tweets pop up, and found out what he was referring to. Then I got furious once I heard first-hand accounts from friends there of what was said besides the "no longer with us" comment. I want a public apology where all of Cliff's fans, his relatives, and friends who might have heard and been concerned can see it. I join you in being pissed-off.

Thing is, I know a lot of people who are close to Cliff and attend cons, who were possibly at Chicago. All it would have taken was one to get in touch with his family to cause a major panic. I can't imagine that sort of horror. And for a petty, pathetic dig at someone who doesn't deserve it?

So. Much. Rage.

*takes a deep breath to keep as close to calm as possible*

I do tend to keep to fan-run cons, rather than commercial cons, and this sort of behavior on the part of the companies that run conventions, or their employees only reinforces that plan (regardless of how often or not often it happens). Because it's bad customer service to piss of customers, especially when your business model is based on service, not goods. And no matter what those businesses who run conventions think a convention is, it is, ultimately, a service, not goods ( ... )

To do this, to someone who is one of the most awesome actors I've met, I do not understand, and will never understand.
This is what hurts the most; the inference that it was Cliff being an ass and letting fans down, when nothing could be further from the truth.

I'm still so angry. It's probably a good job Campy hasn't named the moron.

Doesn't surprise me in the least...I've been lied to by Creation organisers in the past over info about guests and what they are supposed to have said...and also been insulted online by one, who, when I was paying an inordinate amount of money each year to go to their Vancouver and Chicago con, referred to me as one of "their most valuable & loyal customers" to being called a complete troublemaker intent on blackening their name because I made a simple complaint on a forum about the way certain panels were being run with poor lighting and seating...*shrugs*....as I no longer pay out large amounts of cash to line their pockets I guess I'm "fair game"....

I prefer now to pick and choose from the wider variety of Expos, Comic Cons and some of the smaller run ones in UK and Europe....I had a blast at ECCC, Seattle this year and am planning on saving up for that again if I can next year....it would be great to see Cliff there...or over in London again....:D

I think this is the best way to get the message across - not just to boycott Creation, but support other organisers. That includes messaging afterwards with praise and spreading good news. Creation might blacklist me but as they've stopped doing both Farscape and Stargate cons, I'm not terribly bothered.

I'm hoping Cliff will attend a UK convention next year, so I can support him there as well as online.

I've been to many Chevron Cons and the LFCC and Collectomanias....am spreading my wings slowly overseas with ECCC but would also attend the Expos in Canada...in fact I would LOVE to be in Toronto this weekend as RDA is going to be there....thankfully I met him at one of the Chevrons a couple of years back ( ... )

Overseas is out of the question for me.

I went to Chevron 8 end of July and had a blast. The ground crew was awesome, especially one woman who ensured I got David Hewlett's autograph. I'm hopefully going to 8.1, though I'll be in the dealers' room.

I was irked by a few things this year, the Cliff comment being one of them. I can forgive a lot of the chaos that ensued because the volunteers were doing their best with the lines and the schedule they had been given. However, the comment made was by a Creation Employee, one of the showrunners and it was out of line.

I could not help but feel that Creation, like the Stargate producers, has lost interest in the show what appears to be the eleventh hour, since it has been announced that 2014 will be the last Stargate Con. I had been considering dropping money on a gold ticket to attend a Creation Cash Cow Supernatural show, but now I think I won't.

The Supernatural Cons are soooo expensive!!!...I couldn't believe the price for a double photo op with those two boys who are the leads of the show!!!..:O :O :O... scarily so...

But they do create a HUGE revenue as the fandom is fanatical and spends an enormous amount at lots of Cons throughout the year all over the US.....

I guess one day when SPN is over they will also die down.....I don't mind that Stargate is not as popular as it was but in what has been one of the worst and longest worldwide recessions I think many fans really DO have to think hard where to spend their hard earned/saved money...and the Cons that offer a decent price for an auto, photo op and cheap entry often win out for me now...

BTW..I have met Cliff at a Vancouver Creation Con and he was absolutely lovely....he attended the first breakfast I ever went to and went out of his way to make us ladies (and 2 gentlemen) feel like a million dollars....:D

He is wonderful, isn't he? He was so sweet at Birmingham, remembering my name and giving me a huge hug for the photo shoot. :D

Adam? I ask because he made some questionable comments about Lani Tupu/Crais at the LA con in '09.

Cliff is trying to calm things now. He's far more forgiving than I am.
