Rallying the troops

Early this morning, I was browsing Twitter when I caught a tweet from Cliff quoting someone who said reports of his death were exaggerated. Admittedly, I got the context wrong. With context it's much, much worse.

campylobacter reported that on Friday night at Creation Chicago Con, the MC introduced a vid of Baal with "We're going to play this video tribute to ( Read more... )

I've been to many Chevron Cons and the LFCC and Collectomanias....am spreading my wings slowly overseas with ECCC but would also attend the Expos in Canada...in fact I would LOVE to be in Toronto this weekend as RDA is going to be there....thankfully I met him at one of the Chevrons a couple of years back...

I am primarily a Michael Shanks & Stargate fan so will travel to meet any of the stars from there at any Con....it's always a bonus when you get to meet other stars at places like ECCC and LFCC too....

Thankfully the money I did pay out to Creation for the earlier Vancouver Cons wasn't wasted as I met plenty of good friends and incorporated a Canadian vacation into my visits and in the early days with the Set Tour it was better value for money imho.....plus I never bid for/bought the "meet & greets" or VIP packages...I bought only what I wanted re entry ticket, autos and photo ops ...the extras weren't worth the money for me....

The last time I was in Vancouver I sat at the back with a GA ticket but the atmosphere was flat and lacklustre ...I felt that the organisers didn't really care that much and although many volunteers were very helpful, it was obvious that some were only there for the "stars" not "the fans"....a couple of bad experiences for myself and friends only reinforced this and it was a long way off the wonderful work done by the indomitable (but scary) Mama Duck and her volunteers of the 06-08/09 years!

The only thing that would get me to Chicago for the last one would be if all my old friends, some of whom I haven't seen since 09 were to arrange a massive reunion and then I'd consider it, in the cheap seats at the back with minimal convention participation...;)

Overseas is out of the question for me.

I went to Chevron 8 end of July and had a blast. The ground crew was awesome, especially one woman who ensured I got David Hewlett's autograph. I'm hopefully going to 8.1, though I'll be in the dealers' room.
