I saw it Saturday afternoon with John and thought pretty much the same as you. I loved Martin Freeman and you are spot on with that analysis of the progression from Watson to Richard. I don't remember much about Richmond's final speech but the whole performance flew by so they'd were spot on with the adaptation. We were row D so missed the splashage by a row or so...

I've never seen it before so I've nothing for comparison but I will be interested in seeing how Benedict handles it for the Hollow Crown 2.

How funny, we went on Saturday afternoon too! We were all the way in the back though as I've been trying to rein in my theatre spending. Shakespeare does sometimes get unnecessarily wordy and drags down the pace, so it was quite refreshing to see them take a meat cleaver to it.

Cumberbatch doesn't naturally code as Richard to me - whereas Freeman very much does - so I too am looking forward to seeing how he handles it. Mostly I'm spilling over with glee at the thought of Judi Dench as Margaret. I've had this Richard RP vid idea for years but have been waiting for some good War of the Roses footage to come along - hope the new series will provide that!

Oh no! If I'd have known we could have had a drink in the bar!

The whole cast for HC 2 seems pretty fine but Judi Dench should be brilliant. If it is as good as the first series I'm sure there will be something you can work with.
