gucci?

Mar 08, 2009 14:20

Thank you to those who replied to an earlier post. I appreciate your kind words.

To add even more shit into a shitty day, I just realised that a second-hand Gucci bag that I put up for online auction might not actually be authentic. Can anyone help me out?

ETA: I removed the listing because I decided I shouldn't sell if I couldn't authenticate. ( Read more... )

help?, life stuff

I think there's embossed tracking numbers on the inside on real ones. The material on fakes fade, but not on genuine ones.

That's what worries me because I can't find a serial number inside. The material is not faded as far as I can tell.

Hmm, I'm not sure. The corners of the tag by the zipper looks right. There has to be a website somewhere that has an up close of the stitching.

I removed the listing because I was working myself up over it and decided it wasn't worth it. It really sucks arse how much people are prepared to pay for designer items and how much effort goes into counterfeiting them. It's all foreign to me.

Perhaps put up the listing, but say "I was given this, I can't verify it is real- could be a good fake"

and set the price really low?

Like, "nice black bag, blah blah blah, 50% chance it's gucci, but no real idea"

The site that I'm selling it on won't accept designer item listings unless you can authenticate. Honestly? I've just been so stressed by this whole experience that I think I'll just keep it or give it to the Sallies or something. :D

At that point, yeah, it's time to just donate it to get it out of the house, or sell it for $5 at a garage sale or something.

No reason to stress about it.

I find it funny, because I am always buying shoes on e-bay. However, I'm buying 'Simple' brand shoes- largely because the are between $5-$30 on e-bay slightly used, and $60-120 new. But this works mostly because they are a brand that has no functional value as a fake. The market is too small, the price point is too low.

But you couldn't pay me to buy some of the more popular 'brand' shoes, the ones that sell in the $100's. Because why pay that much for a possibly fake shoe, when you could get one that was guaranteed similar but not that brand for much much much less new?

I am probably not the one to ask about these things.

I don't get the designer market at all. This bag was a hand-me-down from years ago, so I don't have any of the authenticity certificates. And I just have no idea why some people spend so much money for bags and shoes and shit.

Before getting rid of it can you at least take it into a store that would know how to tell? That way at least you know you aren't giving away some worth something. Are there Gucci stores or authorized sellers you can go to? I really know absolutely nothing about this stuff.

To be honest, I would - but I'm afraid they'd laugh at me. :D

I went out just then and decided to carry the bag since we spent so much time over it today. And it's actually a pretty handy wee bag so maybe I'll keep it and be vain now and again. :D

...Bags need serial numbers now? What? *owns only two purses - and one was a gift*

Apparently Gucky ones do, anyway. *eye roll* Because some people seriously care about that shit.

I guess I can't sympathize with the whole need for an uber-expensive bag in the first place. Which is just as well, since I have a tendency to cram my lunch in my purse, and I just know that one of these days that's going to backfire on me in spectacularly messy fashion.

Honestly, I just can't respect any woman who spends $1k+ on a freaking handbag.

Re: lunch. You and me both. I'm really feelin' the corporate white collar bond here.

I emailed a friend of mine who's totally obsessed with bags and especially brand expensive ones that she doesn't put on the floor in case they get dirty LOL. Anyway, I emailed her the pics and she said she couldn't tell really, but that it looked real.
She said that on real ones :
- The stiching is absolutely perfect, no stiching is twisted or wrong if you know what I mean
- Gucci should be labelled everywhere : on the handle, on the etiquette(?)/label, on the zipper things etc.

Maybe there's a way to find this model online and compare it with yours ?
I don't know if that helps

Well, at least I know now that if it is a fake, at least it's a good fake. :D

The stitching looks pretty perfect to me, but I never sew, so it's not like I could tell if it was wrong. :D

There are a lot of Gucci labels on this bag...

I think this make is quite old so I haven't been able to find it on the Gucci website, at least. Maybe I should look elsewhere like ebay or something.
