"I know, I'll just call upon those deus ex machina birds from The Lord of The Rings movies!"

YES!!! I have now FINALLY seen all three Lord of the Rings films! And now I finally get that Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged quote I put in this post's title! I'd seen Fellowship and Towers years ago, but I hardly remembered them, and I never saw Return of the King. So when TNT announced they were showing ALL THREE MOVIES IN A SINGLE WEEKEND, I was like "YES ( Read more... )

Oh my god, LOTR. My favorite fantasy movies ever. And Eowyn is just pure AWESOME. I love our white lady of Rohan...

Okay, I should probably stop here before I get into a full scale fangasm over it but... basically LOTR=EPIC WIN.

Fangasm here all you want! I'm still on a nerd high from it! I could hardly contain myself when one of my teachers referenced Mordor as an example of an unstable environment!

Alright... but be warned- you asked for it. XD

I love how modern LOTR is, even though the original books were written ages ago. And the movies stayed really true to the books too- I love how even though there aren't that many female characters, they're all really strong. You don't have a single whimpering, weak damsel in distress in there.

I also love how LOTR is fantasy, but without having it shoved in your face. There aren't any talking lions, and spells aren't used to solve every single problem, but it is still clearly fantasy. There are spells and mythical creatures and immortality, but it's not so much "ZOMG WE'RE MAGICAL!!!" as "Yeah, I'm immortal... so? I'm an elf, what do you expect?"

Ooh, also, also- I love how there's actually depth to it. It's one of the few modern works with real symbolism in it- like how the Ring is a metaphor for drug use. No matter how strong you are, if you keep using it, you will eventually need it ( ... )
