So Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are coming to Oberlin in December and playing their final performance before a hiatus of indefinite length. Needless to say I'm very excited about the concert-- I bought tickets as soon as I heard they were on sale ( Read more... )

Bela Fleck played a concert here a little while ago, and it was absolutely amazing. It was him and this incredible bass player alone on stage at the Fisher Center (the Gehry building on campus) and...the whole thing was just sublime. Enjoy the concert, man!

Wooten is G-d's gift to the bass. Hell, he is a bass deity. I saw him with the rest of the Flecktones this summer-- I'm excited to see them again, especially in such a more intimate venue. My plan for now is to camp out the night before so I get front row seats, and then get Victor Wooten to come out and party with us afterwards.

Wooten is amazing...I was about 10 feet away from him, at the point where I was sitting...when I was standing, I was aboue 3. My ex nearly came all over himself.

Bass players. Pssssh.

BLARGH

FUCKING BELA FLECK...!!!

Okay, Futureman has a cool hat, I will grant you that. But that band just screams "exboyfriend" to me...I had a somewhat trumatic experince going to see them at the Wiltern.

But individually, as players...all those guys rock.

You should drive out to Oberlin and come to the concert with me. It's like a 7 hour drive I think!

I can understand your reasoning. However, when you put a price tag on how much something is "valued" for someone, doesn't financial stability factor in? I mean, if I want to see Bella Fleck more than anything, but can't afford more than $12 for the ticket, then I value it less than someone who might have a rich daddy (or just his own money) and can drop $75? Who says that person actually values the ticket more?

Just playing devil's advocate :P

If you can't afford the $12 to see Bela Fleck, then I'm not going to be taking away your enjoyment by selling it to someone who's willing to pay more since you wouldn't be buying it in the first place ( ... )

I was talking about entitled or even the equality of money and finances. I was referring simply to your original argument that the person who was willing to pay the most for it obviously "valued" it more. And I was saying that might not actually be the case. The student might actually value it much more than the person who can and will spend $75. I'm sure $75 to Bill Gates is pocket change.

And I never said I couldn't afford the $12. I said that I couldn't afford more than $12.

I don't think you are entitled to it. But I'd be willing to bet if you got one you would "value" it much more than someone who could by 12. Just a speculation of course, but I'd be willing to bet you would take such good care of that thing :P

I don't think what you did was unfair.

Now, if you were the manager of a radio station, took some tickets that were supposed to go to giveaways for its listeners, and sold them on ebay for your OWN profit, then yes that is fucked up.
