It's quiet, requires little attention, and doesn't make any messes. If you pick a particular breed, they can live quite a long time.

Well, the most basic kind of fish that lives the longest is the goldfish. However, if you're looking for a more unique breed, I would suggest angelfish or neon tetras. You can find them at any pet store with little trouble, and cost is fairly acceptable.
