Was it just me, or did McCain seem defensive? He kept attacking Obama, without looking at him, without offering a lot of substance. McCain kept returning to the point, "I cut spending," over and over, but Obama kept his cool and kept responding with statistics to back up his position. There were a couple of times when I wished Obama would be a ( Read more... )

I agree--but the problem is, I think many voters have short attention spans. That's why sound bites and "stories" have such an effect. Substance not so much... except that I think last night, people were really listening to what the candidates were saying. I think that's why most people said Obama won last night. I certainly thought he won--reviewing it from the view of actual debate, not talking points.

McCain was defensive and disrespectful. I just read on Yahoo that some viewers thought Obama was rude for talking over him a couple of times. Considering that's what McCain did when he was getting agitated (which didn't take long into the debate), I find that rather hilarious.

Obviously when people's perception is fixed, they don't want to be dazzled by the facts...

I didn't notice the blinking (but I will for the next debates), but did notice the tight smile/grimace. McCain gave off nothing but "Don't trust that fool" vibes, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, it didn't take long at all for McCain to get upset, did it? I noticed the goofy glazed smile he wore when Obama was talking, too!

No, it didn't, and that didn't send one inkling of a good vibe to me, either. This country has had eight LONG years of a hothead in the White House, making decisions regardless of the facts and setting all of us up for one hell of a rough ride. It does NOT need another hothead--oh, sorry, I think the spin is "emphatic, passionate, and indignant"-- who's all too happy to press the fabled red button.

That's funny that people think McCain was rude, when he didn't even look at Obama once the entire night. Jim Lehrer the moderator even said he was trying to start dialogue between the two, and Obama addressed McCain many times, but McCain didn't look at him ONCE. How's that for rude?

Blinking and raised eyebrows... both signs of lies... also.. (and I didn't take note of this) when they glance left (or is it right) it is a sign of a lie.... I would have to look that one up again.

McCain's eyebrows went up and down a lot, now that I think of it. I don't know about glancing to the side, but the eyebrows were definitely in motion a lot. And the blinking. OMG, the blinking.

You know, normally I'd agree with you, but I remember someone raised the blinking topic in 2004. Kerry blinked a lot more than Bush. Does that tell you something or does it mean that the blinking thing doesn't really mean anything?

Looking to the right (your left if facing them) is a signal they are lying...
