Не думаю, что Созомен испытывал какие-то симпатии к языческому царю враждебной державы. Или чувствовал необходимость его обелять.

В восточной версии интрига выглядела так:

Не вижу ничего невозможного в том, что такую интригу провернули, и ей поверили. Тем более, что персидские христиане действительно крайне восторженно реагировали на происходящее у соседей после победы Константина, и связывали с этим большие ожидания.
