So the student magazine at my university has a feature on the Commonwealth Games. I haven't said much on LJ about the buckets of frustration I've had concerning the closed-mindedness and intolerance so rampant at this university. Ah, but the trouble is who is a "native" English speaker? In my mind it seems like it should only be those people who are natively English. However, with all that conquering England did, a lot of people have lost their languages--the ones of their original culture. This is especially upsetting where English language was forced on the imperial subjects, and they were punished for not using it.

Oh, cultural colonialism!
