I can't tell which is more eye-opening: that blood collection agencies still ask whether you've had male homosexual contact (rather than, say, any unprotected sexual contact) as a way to decide who can't give blood, or the fact that McGill has a William Shatner Centre.

When people recommend poetry to me, I'm usually wary. So the student magazine at my university has a feature on the Commonwealth Games. I haven't said much on LJ about the buckets of frustration I've had concerning the closed-mindedness and intolerance so rampant at this university. Even though I like wearing heels, am old enough to vote, and am capable of having children, I have a hard time thinking of myself as a woman. I always think of myself as a kid, a girl, sometimes even an adult, but not a woman.

In the past few weeks, something has changed.

I cannot get through the day without chocolate.

I am a real woman now.

Ah, so you know when I said that I watched Gideon's Crossing on Kenyan TV? And if you pop over to my LJ, you'll see that I link to a single daily political cartoon?

Oh, Kenya.

I cannot bring my usual political punditry to the table as I only have online coverage to work with and I am so confused.

Canadian Parliament has 308 seats and to pass a bill you need 50% + 1 vote. The Speaker, however, does not vote unless there is a tie, so to pass a bill you need 154 votes (out of a possible 307).
