I've probably said it before, but I don't get it when people buy a DVD set of a show and watch the whole thing in two days. I understand that yes, what glorious entertainment it would be, but I couldn't just sit down and watch a whole weekend of episodes, because you have to spread them out so you can look forward to them and expect them and ( Read more... )

I was actually having a conversation about this with my friend Levi. How characters like Jean-Luc Picard and Wade Welles are as real to me as Lex Luthor and Clark Kent are to him. Kind of depressing when I think about it, how I consider television characters better friends than real people.

I love my real friends, but television friends are awesome for many reasons, not limited to: you can yell at them for stupid shit they do and they don't care, they never show up unexpectedly and interrupt your plans, and you can shut them up when they're being annoying. Not that it's a big hoopla when my friends do stupid shit, or show up unexpectedly, or are annoying, but I never feel bad switching off the TV set.

Unfortunately, TV friends cannot give you a hug or converse with you. But I'd say the same about my teddy bear.

I see what you mean. When I'm getting caught up on a show that I haven't seen before, but I have a lot of episodes, I usually try to make them last as long as possible. I'll start off slow, and watch maybe one a week, if I can hold out that long. Then, as I get more and more into the stories of the characters, I find that I watch them more frequently because I have to know what's going on, and I'm so into the whole thing.

I always set up a schedule-- so a year ago I had 'Wire Wednesdays,' when I would always watch 'The Wire' at nine o'clock on Wednesday evenings, no matter what had befallen me during the week. I tend to put shows on evenings when I know I'll have had a rough day at school or whatever, so they can take my mind of things.
