In which I try to make a bed the American way

To the best of my knowledge, a bed made in the American style/way consists of a mattress, a bedsheet, a pillow, a pillow case, a blanket, a quilt and a quilt cover. I could be wrong, of course. ^^;;

After washing my bedsheet, pillow case, quilt for which I should not use detergent and quilt cover today, I decided to try putting them on in a more ( Read more... )

There are variations in beds, but that is one of them, yes. :) The most common thing that you seem to not have is a a box spring (that might be one word, I'm not sure) which sits between the frame and the mattress, but that depends on the kind of frame you have. (We don't use one either.)

Also, there are often two sheets, one fitted to the mattress and one flat right above it. As far as I know, the intended purpose of the flat sheet is to be something between the body and quilt which is easier to wash than the quilt--underwear for your bed, I guess--but I usually use it as something thinner to sleep under on warm nights than the quilt.

Also also, both the blanket and the quilt cover are optional. If you ask testing4l, it's the quilt and quilt cover that are optional, but he's wrong. ; )

So how different is all this from Singapore? I keep wondering that.

Actually, there were several metal pieces that came with the bed frame that were supposed to be fixed under it, but I had no idea where to put them and the instructions didn't help (the holes were missing and I didn't fancy having the bed frame collapse on my head), so they're sitting in a cupboard. :P

Interesting style there...

In Singapore we only use a bedsheet and a blanket (and some days, not even a blanket). :P
