Ha ha, you're going to be in the air for 15 hours and on the ground for 3 hours and yet arrive two hours after you left! Aren't time zones great?

Yes, they are. :P I think I'm going to have an interesting time getting used to sleeping around the equivalent of 4 pm in the afternoon here. ^^;;;

Nearly all flights to the US leave either early in the morning or in the late afternoon, so...

And besides, it's not like you have problems staying up the whole night as has been shown before. Besides, it's a Sunday...

I think you can go window shopping at Narita airport. Japan is notoriously expensive, so I don't suggest you buy anything. However, you might be able to find some kiosk selling bite-sized Japanese delicacies or a small bento set for perhaps a few hundred yen to two thousand yen. I don't exactly know how much things are sold in the airport, but as a reference point, a 0.5 liter carton of milk usually sells for 150 yen at Japanese convenience stores.
