I just turned on my radio, and thought I heard "...Ford was 92 years old."

Did Gerald Ford die last night?

No, he's had a couple of heart operations in the last two weeks but was discharged from hospital last night - probably what you half heard.

In UK law it could be illegal. If you could demonstrate that a significantly smaller than average proportion of graduates at those universities were from ethnic minorities, for example (which I suspect may well be the case), and if you could demonstrate that a the condition they've imposed is not necessary to be capable of doing the job (which is fairly obviously the case), then they would be guilty of indirect race discrimination. Their requirement would disadvantage particular ethnic groups, without being necessary for the job, which is illegal. I don't know how it would work in Belgian law though.

Re LSE - this job ad is very specifically for the Brussels policy environemnt, where (as I've commented to others) LSE really does seem to me to produce much the best graduates of any british unviersity. But it is still silly to exclude all (or even most) others.

LSE tends to attract a certain type of student though - often mature, overseas and self-funding. Probably somewhat more polished than the average 18 year old comprehensive school-leaver ;P

...not that the average 18 year old comprehensive school leaver ends up at Oxford, Cambridge or Edinburgh either!

Off topic, but I have the poisoning article you were after. I will scan it tomorrow and e-mail it to your LJ mail account unless you want it to go to another mailbox.

If the quality is not good then send me a street address and I will post the origina.
