I woke up to a half-chewed mouse on my Transfiguration textbook. Definitely feline teethmarks.

And! AND! What if one day he was absolutely frigid from the cold dungeons? Just absolutely frigid, and I'd have to hold a kitty memorial and my little sister would be devastated and we'd have to have a candlelight vigil and the whole thing would be so so sad.

If cats needed to wear hats in order to survive, the wouldn't have so much fur. But if you're still concerned, I'm sure Professor Dumbledore would be happy to help you locate some yarn or another proper hat material.
