Rating: PG for implied adult situations
Summary: Shifting toward more than just fire and sparks...
Word Count: 300 x 3

Notes/Warnings: This is the finale to The Sparkling Series (Parts 31-33). When I wrote this part, I meant for it to be something short and sweet...and when I finished, my word count was 1,014!! So, I split it into three pieces. Be warned...it's schmoopy and I'm not ashamed. It's back to 100 word one shots for me for a while! I hope you enjoy the last of it. I ♥ my beta, julietm! Comments & criticisms welcome! Enjoy. :)
Disclaimer: If you recognize it, regrettably - it's not mine.

Shift Part 31:

She stepped out of his bathroom with her MIT t-shirt just barely covering a pair of high cut panties, leaving her long legs exposed. Her beautiful, thick curls were still damp after she had toweled her hair dry… letting the bundle fall haphazardly about her shoulders.

Colby looked up from turning down the bed just in time to watch her reach behind her to turn off the light and when she turned back to face him, she did little more than smile as she let her shoulder fall against the door frame. Beautiful in simplicity… that is what this moment was for him as he took a step closer to her.

“Better?” he asked, keeping his distance while fighting the urge to tuck her hair behind her ear to more fully see her face.

She nodded quietly, once more biting at her lip as she looked back at him through lowered lashes. This was something different for the two of them - this was intimate in a way that was unlike the usual fire and sparks that flamed between them.

There was a silence that fell between them then, each unsure of what to say… knowing that they were on the precipice of defining lines for the relationship between them - a relationship that until this moment had been marked by sparkling conversation and incredible sex.

Callie was the first to move, taking a step closer to him and then another. She watched him as he watched her drawing near until both her arms were slipping about his waist, bared before her with the elastic of his boxer briefs showing above his beltless jeans. Her hands slid slowly up his back as she pressed herself further into him… her advances more appreciative than seductive as she smiled and looked into his eyes.

Support Part 32:

“I don’t think I’ve had a chance to thank you, Colby,” she sighed, and her eyes were apologetic.

“Thank me for what?” he asked, not fighting the urge now as he ran his fingers through her hair - smoothing the bundle away from her face.

Her smile softened as she tightened her hold on him. “Thank you for finding me and for letting me stay here.” She hesitated a moment before she met his gaze, “For being here with me at all when you don’t have to be.”

She was silenced then by his lips gently pressing hers as his hands moved to cradle her face. Her fingers tightened against his skin as he deepened the exchange just enough to make her melt into him before he pulled away to look at her.

“You’re right,” he breathed as his thumbs caressed her cheeks - watching her lick her lips to savor the taste of him that lingered there. “I don’t have to be but I want to be - now and longer if you’ll let me.”

There were no words needed then as she nodded, smiling at him through eyes that sparkled just before he scooped her up and carried her to bed.

He carefully deposited her under the sheets before he stripped out of his jeans. He crawled in bed beside her and made no further advances other than opening his arms for her. She gladly accepted the invitation, entwining her legs with his and cuddling as close to him as possible. She felt one strong arm tighten around her while the other arm reached to turn off the lamp before wrapping around her, holding her as though he meant to protect her from any and all things… because that’s what she needed most tonight - security after the ordeal she’d been through.

Future Part 33:

She placed a kiss over his heart before she settled her cheek against his warm skin… closing her eyes to listen to the steady rhythm of his heart beat.

The gentle sound combined with her exhaustion worked quickly to lull her toward sleep, but before she could drift to dream - Colby’s voice carried through the moonlit room.

“For the record Cal, thank you for being here,” he said, honesty filling his words. “I shouldn’t have a chance in hell with a woman like you but here you are… with me when you don’t have to be.”

She raised her head, moving so she could look down at him and even in the dimly lit room he could see the fire in her eyes. “I don’t have to be but I want to be,” she smiled, returning his earlier words to him.

His own smile widened then as he reached up to kiss her softly. After, she looked at him for a long moment before she sighed, “Cal? No one’s ever called me that before.”

“Really? I’ll not call you that if you don’t like it,” he breathed, his fingers moving through her hair.

She smiled at him again before she resettled herself against his chest. “No… actually, I really like it,” she answered and again she kissed his chest before resting her head against him. “I like it because it’s only for you.”

He did nothing more than tighten his arms around her then, gently rubbing her back to help her find sleep in his embrace.

He knew tomorrow every thing would be different… his life would have new meaning because she was in it. She was the spark that started the fire he’d been missing… a fire that would keep on burning for as long as he had her.

THE END.

Additional Author's Note: I just wanted to say thanks to every one who read this, for sticking with it until the end. When I wrote my first 100 word drabble for "Chemistry," I had NO idea this is what it would become. It's been a challenge, but a lot of fun and I thank you all for reading and for leaving lovely comments that feed the ego and the muse. I'd especially like to say thank you for accepting Callie as an OFC, knowing that particular point is always a tricky one in fan fiction. You are all amazing and I've loved sharing this and her with you.
