Possibility/Probabilty Part 24:
Charlie’s determined walk through the bullpen drew the attention of the team and they followed closely behind him enroute to the war room.
His laptop was barely connected before Charlie spoke, “So, I used the information you gave me, expanding my search to other federal agencies. Doing that, the Dynamic Network Analysis algorithm kept coming back with one name.”
The team settled into the room as Charlie hit “enter” on his computer, bringing the ID to the large screen.
“Natasha Warren, Department of Defense?” David read aloud, speculation in his voice.
“I was suspicious at first myself,” Charlie smirked and before he could continue, Megan chided.
“You know, not all masterminds are men. In fact, women are less likely to get caught.”
“Be that as it may,” Charlie continued. “Considering the list of demands made by the terrorists and her known associates, including work with Agent Walker, the algorithm gives her a 93% probability as your most likely suspect.”
“It fits. She knows Walker and her capabilities. It also explains that sense of controlled chaos. With a woman running the team, situations are less likely to scale to violence. It’s more about winning the game than forcing it,” Megan replied, her hands gesturing to make her point.
“Do we know where she is?” Don questioned, raising an eyebrow at his brother.
“I’m glad you asked because using another program, I considered the toxin’s chemical signature - available components, transportability. Considering also space needed to mass produce and contain the toxin, and considering Agent Warren’s known associates, I’ve narrowed down the location to three warehouses near the waterfront. Here…here…and here.” He pointed out each with a click.
“Good work Charlie. Thanks!” Don called, dashing from the room with his team as they made to organize a full scale tactical response.
Tense Part 25:
SWAT’s reconnaissance of the three warehouses proved that Charlie’s math was right yet again. The warehouse closest to the water and furthest from LA’s most populated area was abuzz with suspicious activity. Agent Warren was seen entering the third facility on his list. Upon her arrival, she immediately sought out a rather large man who SWAT recognized as one of the notorious ruffians for the local criminal underworld.
Another far more squirrelly man was working furiously at a bench in the corner with chemicals and glassware spread behind him. He jumped when she called his name and it seemed fairly obvious that the man was working on something that required less stress in tandem with steadier hands. Warren laughed at his reaction before yelling out orders and asking why his project wasn’t finished yet. She became infuriated when she heard the answer and started to storm off, but the large ruffian kept her from her path.
SWAT reported twenty other people working in and around the warehouse but in all that, no one could see Callie anywhere.
Colby’s stomach tightened for the tenth time in as many minutes as he heard SWAT repeat that there was no sign of Agent Walker anywhere inside the warehouse. He hoped that she was hidden…that she was being kept somewhere outside the warehouse - but he had to swallow hard at the possibility that her usefulness had runs its course and the criminals had taken her life.
He wouldn’t think of that now. They were about to take the warehouse and when they did, he would make them talk. He would find out where she was and he would take her home, just like he promised Gary…like he promised himself and if he couldn’t keep that promise, there would be hell to pay.
Survival Part 26:
In less than twenty minutes, SWAT and FBI worked together to take the warehouse with surprisingly little resistance. The toxin was contained and Warren with her goons were being transported away… except one.
“I’m only going to ask you once,” Colby growled, his grip tightening on the oversized smirking criminal. “Where is she?”
The son of a bitch laughed.
Colby tossed him against the wall as anger filled his features. David and Don took a step closer ready to intervene if things got worse but wanting to give Colby the chance to get the information he needed. “Where… is…. she?” he hissed.
“Let’s just say,” the perp snarled, “she wouldn’t play nice. We had to teach her a lesson.”
With force, Colby tossed the scumbag to the side letting him fall to the ground with disregard. Colby turned then, looking around as his stomach churned and a feeling he’d felt many times before crept into his heart.
He looked to David and his partner understood. David gave a signal for the team to spread out while two agents rounded up the body on the floor to lead him away.
“Breathe,” Colby told himself. If he didn’t breathe, he would throw up and now, there were more important things to do.
This is where the toxin was being made. This had to be where she was… somewhere inside. But where?
“He’s put her in something…” Colby sighed aloud and again his stomach churned knowing the abandoned warehouse was full of crates and numerous other storage spaces.
It worried him more that Callie wasn’t making any noise to help them find her. Surely if she had heard the commotion of the FBI/SWAT onslaught, she would have tried to signal somehow so they could find her… she would if she was still alive.
