Here's some company for your misery: I had to get 7 cavities filled recently. And since they don't want to use too much anesthetic at one time, this meant four trips to the dentist. Whee.

Yes, well, I'm too phobic to use anesthetic in the first place since every dentist I've come across is too much of an utter arse to believe that to a needle-phobe, the idea of getting a needle is about as terrifying as the idea of being tortured (since, essentially, that's what the experience is to a needle-phobe) and so will do absolutely nothing to help alleviate the fear, be that with anti-anxiety medication, laughing gas, or just simply being patient and letting me work up the nerve to go through with it. Just being told I'll need a needle for something is enough to reduce me to tears. Actually getting the needle is even worse ( ... )

None of these dentists have nitrous oxide? My doctor used to give me a choice between the gas and the novicaine, although I generally go with the novicane because the gas makes me really loopy. Like, walking into walls loopy.

No. I can't figure out why. I've got a relative in Ontario whose dentist lets her use nitrous oxide because she's afraid of needles.
