[Simon is eating his breakfast when this entry comes up and chokes on the bit of doughnut he's swallowing; a little spray of chewed-up doughtnut bits appears on the page when he coughs it up. Eww.]

[A half-eaten donut and a bowl of sliced fruit lay forgotten on the dining room table as Simon paced, monitoring his journal, hardly daring to believe it. He'd almost lost hope of ever seeing that handwriting again, let alone his father returning and remembering him, but... stranger things had also happened.
Finally, almost unable to bear it, Simon opened the door and stood in the entrance to wait for him.]
[It was a gentle hum of an unknown song that announced Koi's arrival, soon followed by the mop of white hair. The tall man was wearing the standard newborn clothing and held the journal and pen in one hand.
Seeing Simon waiting for him, Koi brightened up and his steps became hurried.]
[Simon heard Koi's voice, saw him, saw that it was really him and found he couldn't help his enthusiasm; he practically threw himself at his father and hugged him tightly, feeling his eyes well up. His voice shook a little.]
I've missed you, Dad. I've missed you so, so much.
[Simon took a moment to regain his composure before letting go, trying to discreetly wipe his eyes.]
It has been... it's been months. Since November. It's July now. I didn't think... it's been so long, I was starting to think I'd never see you again. Or not as I knew you. It's great to have you back.
[Feeling slightly embarrassed now, Simon steps aside to allow Koi in, wiping his eyes.]
I know you didn't. I'm just... it's good to see you again. Come in, I'll put a pot of tea on...
[He gestures toward the empty bedroom.]
If you want to get properly dressed in the meantime... I never was able to bring myself to get rid of your things. Your clothes are still here, and your teacup collection, too.
[He glances over at the empty bedroom, slightly concerned. If he'd been gone that long... he must have hurt the man terribly by not returning after his death.]
Thank you... I'm grateful you kept it, since I would like to wear something else. It was odd, though... I wasn't born in the Hall of Beginnings. Did something happen?
[Simon swallows as he fills the kettle and puts it on to boil, glancing over at the closed door to his and Qi's room, where he knows his sister is curled up in a tiny ball on his bed, still lost inside her own head after their trip to that dead Wilderness.
Oh yes, things have happened.]
You are not the only one who has come back that way, no. There's a mixture of new residents and disappeared ones who have come back with their memories intact. All of them just... suddenly appeared, all over the place. They're clothed and have journals, they have no memories aside from their dreams like the rest of us, but none of them have come from cocoons.
We're not sure what's going on, but it's just the latest in strange occurrences.
Dad...

My goodness, such a nice welcome.
[There was a small pause, and then a sigh.]
...I must have been gone a long time.

Months... I am so sorry. I never wanted this to happen, Simon. I wish I could have returned at once.
But I'm here now.

My goodness... that seems rather odd. Are the cocoons okay?
