... whether editing an existing story on Teaspoon causes "new post" messages to be sent to people who have you favorited?  I wouldn't have expected it to work like that, but I have noticed that sometimes, when someone posts a new chapter of a story, I get multiple notifications, which makes me wonder.

No, I don't think so. And for what it's worth, I never get multiple notices for the same story update, so it may be something about your database entry that makes that happen, but it's not supposed to.

Thanks! I get updates a few minutes apart for some authors for some updates, but I've never noticed a pattern. But it's good to know it's not caused by editing.

I don't think it spams if you edit. I've done multiple edits in a short space of time before, and no one ever seemed to unfavorite me over it. Nor have I ever gotten multiple notices from anyone else.
