I read a New Yorker article once that theorized that the normal human sleeping pattern is a few hours, then awake for a bit, then a few more hours, and that the modern world has overthrown that natural tendency.

I'm starting to think of my natural pattern as 10 hours of sleep with a break for some puttering around at the 5 hour mark.
