Help with pattern, please?

I'm hoping someone can help me, even as vague as I'm about to be!

I was about to start the poncho pattern from this book. However, the instructions have two sets of directions in it. The first is the "stitch pattern" with four rows of directions, and then there are the "poncho directions". The poncho directions actually tell me which size ( Read more... )

I can't say for sure, since I don't have direct access to the pattern, but usually you start with the poncho directions, and at some point it usually states to continue in stitch pattern, or work so- many repeats of the stitch pattern.

Thanks, as soon as you said that, it reminded me of previous patterns that had said that very thing. So I went back to the poncho directions. Nothing in there about the stitch pattern. In fact, at the end, all it says is "Repeat these 4 rows [poncho directions only] until the work measures about 54. Bind off in Row 3". Words in brackets are mine, not in the actual directions.

I'm going to head to the book's website. Maybe it was an error?

I see from the description of the book on Amazon that it comes with a DVD. Does the DVD cover this pattern?

Otherwise, I agree that usually the stitch pattern is used as part of the general directions. Often you start a piece with rib or some other edging for a set number of cms or inches, and then change to the pattern. The general directions assume that you're working in the pattern and just focus on telling you how many row or cms or inches to complete, and when to increase or decrease etc..

I looked at the DVD and all it is is videos on how to do certain stitches - garter, purl, cable, etc. Nothing on the pattern, which is a shame. I mean, it helps to visualize if you're having issues with a stitch, but nothing on the specific patterns themselves.

I'm almost sure this is an error in the pattern now, because their other patterns in the book will say "Work as established, work xx pattern". So either they forgot to add that into this particular pattern or the the stitch pattern is not supposed to be in there in the first place. I've emailed the publisher and asked for their input. Since my copy is from 2007, I'm sure (I hope!) they caught this little mistake for later publications. Looks like they put out another edition in 2010, so I'm curious to see what they say.
