Here's a little photojournal of my AT experience so far. As far as the trail goes I'm in Bland, Virginia. About 570 miles down (a little over 25% of the way done). If you're wondering why I'm posting it's because I'm at my parents right now. I had to come home for a dentist appointment and thought I'd take the time to share a few of the things ( Read more... )

hi. i'm adding you to my friends list. we seem to have a lot of things in common, other than an obsession for similar cameras. i grew up in the mountains of virginia, currently live in tennessee and have hiked parts of the AT many, many times. i'm rachel. nice to meet you.

the longest hike i did was from juts outside of ashville, nc on the tennessee side (i can't remember the name of the town, the rhododendrons were in bloom and it was goregous!) to damascus, va. i grew up in a town called abingdon (ever heard of it?), so most of the hiking i've done is around the grayson highlands. i used to love going up there to camp with all of the wild ponies!

right now i live in nashville.

and you?

hot springs maybe? Roan Mountain?

I used to go rock climbing all the time outside of abington, va

I graduated from ETSU in Johnson City, TN so I know the area fairly well.

Right now I live just west of Knoxville.

The grayson highlands was by far the most beautiful area of the 1/4 of the AT that I hiked

PLZ ADVISE:

What is the difference between lie vs. lay and all that?

Reply

notjohndavid January 12 2005, 13:01:48 UTC
lay takes a direct object. lie does not.

lie is used to describe someone reclining or resting, ie. "I am tired so I am going to lie down and go to sleep."

lay is used to desribe placing something. ie. "Where would you like these flowers? Oh, I don't care, lay them anywhere."

So, basically, lie is for a person and lay is for a thing? Or have I misinterpreted things?

well... sort of but it isn't limited to a person

lie means to rest or recline
lay means to place something

bland, va. i always pass the exit sign for that place and laugh on my way up to d.c. not far from the va inland dock, right?

not sure where the va inland dock is?

it's in the southwestern corner of VA. near damascus, pearisburg, bristol, etc.

when do you go to dc? where are you from?

geography sounds right. i go up to d.c. to see family on a random smattering of holidays and crisis points. i'm currently living in georgia, but i lived in va(winchester) until i was 11 and i loved it dearly. your pictures are a nice reminder of home.
