Round 2: Better and Worse

Sep 06, 2009 14:27

I went out as myself this morning to that Unitarian Universalist church again.  I just about didn't make it there; I got myself made up and ready this morning, and I thought I looked horrible.  I thought my facial hair was totally obvious, and I didn't think I did a good job on my eye makeup, and I really didn't want to go out looking like that.   ( Read more... )

wtf, the world, spirituality, transition

It wasn't *so* bad once I got there, so I'm glad I pushed myself into doing it. I guess sometimes you have to fake it until you make it, isn't that what they say?

I have had the experience when the speaker acts like he is better than everyone at the service. I had very uncharitable thoughts.

Well fortunately at least, that kind of thing is *extremely* out of character for this church. I think most everyone was uncomfortable with it, like I said some of them were even apologetic.

I got the distinct impression he was mainly there to make money--the service seemed geared toward convincing us we needed to buy one of his $45 artificial didgeridoos and then spend $15 to take the workshop and learn to play it. :eyeroll:

I'm glad you were able to go. I hope the woman who had the heart attack is still okay.

As for the message, yeah, that sounds crummy. Pretty insensitive toward anyone with any kind of disease or physical disadvantage, really. Fail. (And not even *real* didgeridoos? Come on!)

Looking back it was a positive experience; I did do a lot better as far as being able to speak and things. I got an email back from the transwoman who stalks me, she happens to work at the ER that the lady was taken to; she didn't say anything about that, so I'm taking that as "no news is good news".

Yeah, the guy actually said in his 'message' that an authentic didgeridoo is made from eucalyptus, and then he's out there selling these pressboard-and-mylar things. I rolled my eyes. XD
