The drugs were gone. The drugs were gone.

It was like a huge relief was lifted off her shoulders, and yet confusion all the same. But then again, the confusion was nothing new in her world. She was free. All she had to do was just live her life and try not to get into any trouble ever again.

Yeah. That so wasn’t going to work.

She was still kinda confused though. She didn’t know when those drugs were out of her sight long enough for someone to switch them out with towels, and frankly, she couldn’t think of anyone who would. No one cared about her that much, and she would think that the people who did would have her go to jail just to teach her a lesson, but apparently, that wasn’t the way things were going to go. She needed to figure some things out, and for the first time in a long time, the one person that she could think of to turn to just wasn’t available.

Mary wasn’t going to help her on this one.

She leaned back against the headboard of her bed, drawing her legs up to her chest and flipping through the numbers in her phonebook, trying to find someone who wouldn’t flip their shit regarding her current situation and would be cool and supportive. At least somewhat. There weren’t exactly many options considering the crowd she usually hung out with were the ones that helped her to wind up with the drugs in the first place.

The cursor finally stopped on the name of a girl she hadn’t talked to in a while, and she paused for a minute, before hitting send and placing the phone to her ear before she thought it over too much and decided against it. She knew she needed to talk to someone, and she didn’t want to sabotage it all that much.

She drummed her fingers against her knees as she waited, nervous energy finding an exit through her fingers to her leg, but it wasn’t long before someone on the other end of the line picked up. “Brandi?”

“Hey, Anna,” she said, doing her best to sound cheerful and normal. “Long time, no talk.”

“What’s wrong?”

Brandi should have been insulted. In fact, she was slightly insulted. Every time she called Anna was not an indication of something being wrong. It just happened to happen fairly often. One could almost consider it reliably so, but that was a really, really big almost. And still an almost. “What, can’t a girl just call an old friend she hadn’t talked to in a while?”

“Brandi.” The blond could picture the no nonsense look on Anna’s face and she caved, not wanting to cause any more trouble than she already was in.

“Okay-so I may have gotten in a bit of legal trouble.”

There was an exasperated sigh, which was probably accompanied by an eye roll and an equally exasperated look. But that was a usual reaction when it came to dealing with Brandi and she’d learned to block it out. For the most part.

“What kind of legal trouble?”

Brandi paused for a minute, before shifting in the way she was sitting before looking up at the ceiling. “There may have been drugs involved?”

There was a long pause. “Drugs?”

“Yeah-”

“Brandi Shannon, I swear I’m going to kick your ass the next time I see you.”

“Hey! I’m looking for a little moral support here. I was nearly arrested for murdering FBI agents, alright?”

“You what?!?!”

“I didn’t do it!”

“Jesus, Brandi-”

“I know, I know, I was nearly fucked, but I’m not, alright? I was just looking for someone to talk to.”

Anna sighed heavily again. “Are you still in Jersey?”

“Nah, I headed out to Arizona to stay with my sister.” She paused for a minute, anticipating Anna’s next question before she actually said it. “In Phoenix.” Okay, well, that was a lie, but she didn’t need random people showing up on her sister’s doorstep. Not so close after all this, anyway.”

“You really need to stop pulling your stuff together, Brands,” Anna sighed. “You know that right?”

“Yeah, yeah-I know,” Brandi sighed. “I’m just looking for a friend right now.”

“I can do that.”

“Good,” Brandi said with a smile. “I’m glad.”

“So let’s start at the top, ‘kay?”

“Yeah, yeah,” Brandi sighed as she leaned back and got ready to share the story. “Starting from the top.”
