I know some of you are from places similar enough to mine to understand this, but fall is known for something other than...that holiday we're not speaking of.

It is a bleedin' mystery why it's even called 'football'. How often do you even touch the ball with your foot?

I am going by that logic and since the ball has to be hit by the foot to move, then calling it football is logical.

The basic point is for one team to move the ball from one side of the field to the other side. The designated area for scoring is called the end zone. Teams can throw the ball (known as passing) or they can run the ball. The opposing team is obviously trying to stop them by tackling the person in possession of the ball.
