pro-rape activism

Isn't it odd that the only forms of "birth control" anti-choicers will tolerate -- abstinence and NFP -- just so happen to be the only forms of "birth control" that leave women totally unprotected from impregnation by rape?

Considering the recent efforts to deny abortion coverage to impoverished rape victims in the US Congress, the "Conceived in Read more... )

They have basically moved in to using rape as a tool to pressure women in to motherhood.

And in doing so have gone back to "the good ol' days."

Very, and trust me...it was odd too when I was pro-life. As a lifer, I thought contraception was good because it prevented unwanted pregnancy which would lead to abortion. And while I wasn't politically active as a lifer, when I was on the fence, I asked those that were anti-abortion about why they were against contraception because that left a woman vulnerable to rape. They *never* gave me a descent answer. It was always something like "It's a part of God's plan" or some moronic response.

it's starting to get really obvious that these people care a whole lot more about subjugating women -- by force if necessary -- than protecting fetuses.
I've been thinking that since January when congress first thought about redefining rape

These are the kinds of things that anger me to tears. I think, as pro choicers, we need to be aware of how hard these people will fight for their way. We need to be on our toes to protect our rights.

Sometimes I think younger generations are so comfortable with their right to choose that they don't realize how close this country is coming to removing it.

100% true. I used to live overseas, and until 1997 my country had very limited abortion rights. The most evident result (visible to me, as a 12 year old in 1997) was a high rate of illegally performed late term abortions carried out by unqualified individuals in unsanitary conditions. Many fetuses lived through the procedures and became orphans. That is the reality of an anti-choice society.
