Room 222, Friday Evening

Apr 15, 2011 18:50

Prom was tonight. And that was a big deal! It really was! Only, somewhere over the course of the day, after a lot of showering and a bit of flopping about on his bed trying futilely to sleep, Warren had managed to reason to himself that he was going to have another prom before his own graduation. And he felt like hell and kind of looked like it, ( Read more... )

Karla...Karla had a dilemma. On the one hand, this was Warren's prom. His first prom. And all of her friends from this world had made it VERY CLEAR that prom was an important thing! And maybe Warren would want to go to a dance where things wouldn't try to kill him, where he could just have fun and drink spiked punch and just forget about last night.

Well, this morning, really.

The problem? Karla was really weighing the options between putting on another fancy dress and going to a ball and just locking herself in her room forever and not coming out. Right now, the locking herself up idea was winning.

After coming back down from celebrating Emma getting into ESU, Karla took one look at the prom gown hanging up in her closet, along with the strappy shoes she'd have to shove her feet into and all the cosmetics she'd have to smear on and sighed. Mother Night, this was going to take forever. Especially with as little enthusiasm as she had for the task ( ... )

It took Warren a few moments to wrap his head around the fact that those were actual words going on, outside his actual door, there in the real world, which was so very much more pleasant than the birds-eye view of the horror landscapes that were playing and re-playing themselves over and over in his mind's eye.

"Ready...?"

... Oh. Oh, right. There was that... that thingie... that was...

"Mind coming in for a moment, Karla? I'm about as decent as I ever get..."

Which mostly meant that he was wearing pants, and exercising that other other superpower of his, that Bobby had mentioned. Because he didn't have to pull a shirt on for anybody in the safety of his own room, anyhow.

Well, that sounded interesting.

Karla opened the door and stepped inside, stopping when she saw Warren lying prone on the bed. He most definitely didn't look like he was getting ready for prom anytime soon.

Dammit. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to be worried or elated. Right now, elated was kind of winning.

"Is there a reason you're not getting dressed?" she asked. She was trying not to sound hopeful, and ended up sounding kind of flat.

"... Kind of," Warren replied, sounding vaguely apologetic as he rolled over and sat up. "Sorry, I can. I mean, it isn't that I don't have a suit or anything. I just didn't really... I wasn't entirely..."

My, this was working well.

He shrugged.

"I'm sorry, Karla. My head wasn't really in it. I was going to call you to tell you..."
